I am researching a family with the surname ACTON.
My grandfather Stephen "Karel" Acton arrived on board the Celtic on Ellis Island in October 1920. Also with him was his wife Phoebe Mariah
Baxter Acton—her sister—Barbara Baxter & her mother Fanny Baxter.
Someone has sent me a 1901 census record that listed a Karel as son of William Alfred Acton and wife Susan - children - Osmond, Martha, Elrad, Elnah & Karel. The ages seem to fit with my Karel Acton. Can anyone tell me if Karel is a common name for these parts? Does anyone have any information on this family. They are said to be from Essex,
Colchester, Dulwich areas. William was listed of Priest of the New Church.
I am completely unfamiliar as I was raised by a relative on my father's side of the family and Stephen Karel was on my mother's side. He was born 06/19/1895 and passed away in the USA September of 1980. Any
information would be greatly appreciated.
I have no knowledge of geography of England so I am sorry if I am way off on any of the geography here. Fannie Baxter's husband or father may have been named George.
