Researching the George F. THORPE family.
George Thorpe married Margaret Maria Naven or Navin around 1856. George F.
was born about 1834 in Wandsworth, Surrey, England and was a Railway
Engine Driver. Margaret was also born about 1834 in Stafford or Wolverhampton, Staffordshire.
Children of George F. and Margaret: George born 1856 (Wandsworth or
(Kennington), Charles J. born 1857/1858 (Camberwell or Peckham), John born
1860 (Camberwell or Peckham), Mary Ann Elizabeth born 1861/1862
(Peckham), Minnie born 1865 (Battersea) and Arthur born 1868/1869 (Battersea).
In the 1881 British Census sons George and Charles J. were widowed and John Thorpe was unmarried.
Most of the family seems to have immigrated to San Francisco, California 7 Aug 1885 along with grandchildren, Charles and Minnie Thorpe both born about 1880 in Battersea.
Minnie Thorpe, grandchild of George F. and Margaret married Manuel Martinez. Trying to establish her parents' names. I'm pretty sure that George (son of George F) was her father but have no proof. At Charles' J. death 8 Oct 1904 in Taylorville, Marin County, California Minnie's name is mentioned as his niece. Mary Ann Elizabeth Thorpe married 1. Henry Puttock of England and Harry Charles Arndt of Germany.
