My special interest (and brick wall) is the origin of my GGF Richard CLARK(E).

He sailed from Southampton UK in Nov. 1856 for Australia (Moreton Bay - now Brisbane) aboard the "Parsee". He was recorded as 23 years on the ship's log. b.1833 ? I have a quite good record of his life after he landed in Australia in Feb 1857. He was apparently well educated, could read and write, and was apparently a cabinet maker or similar. Seemed to always use ClarkE as surname, although the ship's log dropped the E.

His parents are thought to be John CLARK(E), unknown UK birthplace or DOB, and Eliza(beth) HANCOCK (Richard stated on the ship's log that she was deceased). Other family/siblings in UK unknown. Richard's marriage certificate 1863 shows parents as John and Eliza.

There is confusion in his only written statement about his upbringing, especially when he writes that he was born Cambridge, and later he uses CAMBS. His death certificate says b. unknown town Kent.

The only possibility I have found is the marriage in St Mary's Whitechapel London in 1814 of a John Clark and an Eliza Hancock. This would tend to make Richard perhaps the youngest of that grouping if he was b.1833, but also could explain Eliza deceased before 1856.

I would really appreciate any clues, tips, or links. This has been a brick wall since 1988. :-(
