I am researching John WALPOLE—who was born around 1800. He married Mary Ann FERGUSON in Australia, N.S.W. - West Maitland in 1842. I am finding it nearly impossible to find any details prior to this event that are definite links to him. I have just recently purchased a death and marriage certificate of a Joseph James Walpole who married a Catherine Collum in West Maitland on 13th July 1855. He died 16th February 1897 in N.S.W. - buried Bathurst. He was 66 years old. They my elusive John and him Joseph were both married in West Maitland Wesleyan Church. (13 years apart), it may be a co-incidence but the population in West Maitland around that time was less than 2000. Joseph's father was John and Charlotte Walpole - he (Joseph) was born in London. His children's names list Joseph, John, Eliza, James, William, Francis and Charlotte. He lived in Australia 51 years (so he would have been about 15 when he came here in 1846. - ? my John Walpole may have just left or nearly left the W. Maitland area around that time?
I am wondering if my John Walpole was Joseph's father - and he remarried when he came to Australia. ? don't know what happened to Charlotte Walpole - Joseph's mother.
