My ancestors came to Newfoundland around the 1700, two Sharp brothers landed in St. John's Harbour and settled here. From there they moved onto Spoon Cove and then Upper Island Cove, then Paradise. My grandfather James William Sharpe opened a general store on New Gower Street in St. John's in about 1920. His first wife was Sophia Vokey of Spaniards Bay, and his second wife was Alberta Lynch of Bishops Cove, NL. My grandfather's father name was James William Sharpe and his mother was Mary Anne Adams. The Adams settled in Spoon Cove around the same time. The Adams were scooner builders. The Sharpe were fishers and farmers. Do you have anything in your data base that may sound familiar.
