I am interested in all GAISH surnames for London/Middlesex especially Hammersmith, Fulham.
Looking for birthdate of my Great Grandfather Walter James GAISH, c.1862, costermonger, Hammersmith, and his father William. Also my Great Grandfather John Frederick SYMES known as Fulham's only VC. I now have proof of his medal. He was awarded the D C M London Gazette issue 30879, page 97, he was Gunner J. F. Symes of Fulham S.W. service No. 174339, of the Royal Field Artillery, he repelled the enemy, dismantled a gun?, and his commanding officer being shot in both legs he carried him through the enemy hidden by the mist to safety.
